The drive takes about an hour and a half, so most people eat in Lonavala itself: the chikki and fudge shops in town and the Mapro food court are a few minutes off the highway. The geography shapes the day. Karla and Bhaja caves are east of Lonavala, the side you arrive from, so Pune day-trippers do them first, while it is still cool. Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point and Lion's Point are on the far side of town and suit the afternoon. Leave by 5:30 PM and you are usually back in Pune around 7.
