Why Gulf flights can mean a drive at any hour

The Gulf is the one region with flights from T2 at almost every hour. On the summer board Mumbai sent about 13 flights a day to Dubai, 8 to Abu Dhabi and around 30 more to Jeddah, Riyadh, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam and Madinah. Plenty of choice also means more short-notice changes: the conflict in the Middle East has disrupted Gulf airspace on and off through 2026.

Because there is a Dubai flight at almost any hour, the Pune pickup can fall at any hour too. For Emirates at 4:25 AM leave Pune between 8:55 PM and 9:25 PM the day before; for 10:15 AM, between 2:45 AM and 3:15 AM; for 4 PM, between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM; and for 10:25 PM, between 2:55 PM and 3:25 PM. The morning and late-afternoon flights put your drive into Mumbai's daytime traffic, so take the earlier time on those.

Every time below follows the same rule: be at T2 4 hours before departure, as the airport advises, which puts the Pune pickup 7 to 7.5 hours before the flight. How the rule works.

Plenty of Pune travellers use Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha as the connection to Europe, Africa or North America. Qatar Airways ran a reduced and then restored India schedule in 2026, with short-notice changes, so check its current Doha timing with the airline. If the Gulf city is only your connection, the transit rules are set by the UAE or Qatar and by your airline, so check with the airline before you fly. Abu Dhabi on Air India Express is the one international route from Navi Mumbai airport (NMI), not Mumbai T2: check the airport code on your ticket.

Transit visas for Indian passport holders, at the airports where travellers from Pune usually connect:

• UAE and Qatar. If Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha is only your connection, transit rules are set by the UAE or Qatar and enforced by your airline. We have not checked them, so ask your airline before you fly.
• United Kingdom. Changing planes at a UK airport on an Indian passport needs a Direct Airside Transit Visa, unless you hold a valid US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visa or a residence card from one of those countries, among other exemptions listed by the Home Office.
